It begins Dec 6 with a duo of chefs, Sachi Nagase and Katie Yun who together are Both/&. Both/& will open DPA Shop with 2 Multi-course communal meals inspired by their respective Korean and Japanese heritages. The first seating is sold out but the 8pm has 2 spots available! Email them to reserve these last two seats. If you don’t get a seat, Both/& will have chili oil and candied ginger stocked for sale.
As for books, DPA is stocked with new works by Caroline Woolard & Susan Jahoda, Rebecca Purcell, Sarah G. Sharp, Cat Tyc. Two Zines by Mirabai Troll, and Lai Yi Ohlsen. Our friendly regular, Yonkers International Presswill have an assortment of publications. A reprint of Cookbook Domestic Performance Agency 1 will also be available and comes with an adhesive 2019 soup to-do-list manifesto. Two Teens of DPA; Ruby Harris and Evie Fabricant self published zines. Blank Formshas also delivered a couple of books they have recently published. One by Joseph Jarman and the other by Loren Connors. BlankForms has also bundled up some recent vinyls I’ll play for you in the shop!
There are a number of West Coast artists who have shipped their work to DPA this year. From LA, there is Kristin Dickson of IKO IKO who sent their transparent chord covers as well as wilted hair ties. Also from LA, Camilla Carper made ribbon and will be visiting and gift wrapping just in time on Dec 7. From Portland there’s Alexa Starkwho madeone of kind garments especially for DPA, Mirabai Troll, a midwife and the editor of MomBod zine, and Brita Zeiler of Cordial Waters who is shipping herbal tea blends as well as body products to pre-order from Portland to DPA. From Seattle, Lilah Horwitz has hand built 100 spoons, and has thrown fermenting crocks and tiny pedestals. All wares are glazed in black. Just in Lacey Wozny’s skin tonic oil freshly shipped from LA.
Then there are the dear locals of Brooklyn; Liz Neves of Gathering Ground and Marisa Clementi will stock DPA with an assortment of internally taken and topically applied body products and medicines. Liz of Gathering Ground will be in the DPA on the 13th crafting medicines at 7pm. If you are into permanence for the body, Laurel Atwell has drawn a flash menu where you can pick your own piece for your flesh. She will have available stick & poke tattoo sessions during shop hours some days. Book directly with her for this service or ask about a reiki session. Tess Dworman will showcase some new David Hockey Tees which are hand drawn interpretations from The Sopranos TV stills. Carla Duarte will have her “moving cushions” for sale. These are perfect for meditation or sitting/moving closer to the earth. Sarah Capshaw of Elemental Studio has naturally hand-dyed/ hand-made silk scarves. And Emma Grace Epes-Skoves has delicately inserted botanicals into glass earrings. Kayla Farrish photographs are on view, and price upon request. Whitney Browne made magnets to hold that note on the fridge.
I can’t forget Kino Haskell Kokoronis. My daughter is selling her new book made specifically for the shop goers, Abstraction to Reality. She is my helper with the humor essential oil blends on the shelves, as well as the decorator of the egg cartons that you can take home palm oil-free/ Vegan soap which was made and cured on the premise (thanks to the tutelage of Angie Pittman.) The soap comes in a dozen pieces molded from egg cartons; One piece for each month. DPA Soap Calendars! DPA will have some wearable pieces on sale too and a pine tincture. Soup to be sampled and Soup Subscriptions available as always.

Black Aesthetics is an invitation to Black Artists to explore the possibilities of artistic practice being survival. Inspired by a concept of otherwise possibility- “I want to ask the artist how do we act outside violent ways in the United States”. -Malcolm Betts, artist & curator 6pm (Potluck)

12/13 Shop Hours 1-6 pm & 7 pm Liz Neves, author of the upcoming Northeast Medicinal Plants: Identify, Harvest, and Use 111 Wild Herbs for Health and Wellness (Timber Press, May 2020), learn how to craft an herbal elixir or oxymel; two delicious ways to enjoy medicinal herbs. With their beauty and unique taste profiles, these herbal preparations also make great holiday gifts. We’ll talk about herbs for nourishment, digestive relief, and altering perception – useful for meditation, dreaming, and journeywork. We’ll work with herbs commonly found in the supermarket as well as dried regionally available herbs. Participants walk away with their very own custom elixir or oxymel. $35 includes materials 7 pm (IG: @gatheringground)
